Site backfilled

On site: Keith Fitzpatrick-Matthews, Siân O’Neill

Weather: grey and cool

Today, the digger driver arrived to backfill the trenches. It is always a sad affair, saying “goodbye” to a site. The smell of the topsoil as it was being pushed back into the trench by the JCB was the same as on the first day and really made me want to be back on site. Still, I know that we’ll be back next year and that there are exciting discoveries still to be made.

About Keith Fitzpatrick-Matthews

I'm the Archaeology Officer for North Hertfordshire District Council Museum Service. I was born and brought up in Letchworth Garden City, so I have a life-long connection with the area.
