We began by moving the rolls of chestnut paving from the yard of The Old Vicarage to Church Field. Mick and Muriel went to Bickerdyke’s Garden Centre to buy new fence posts, as those supplied were too big. We erected a compound 10 by 20 m in the south-western corner of Church Field, using existing field boundary fences to the south-west and north-west.

In searching for the grid peg put in for the geophysical survey carried out in April, Mick found traces of a cobbled surface in the very western corner of the compound. The grid peg appears to have been removed.

We left the site secure at noon.
